What have you done today to become a better [blank]?

It's a simple question, but one that packs a really powerful punch, what have you done today to become a better [blank]? Fill in the blank with whatever you want. It could be an artist, designer, father, spouse, gardener, etc.

In this case, it was a buddy of mine that I worked with for many years, and we quickly became friends over our love of golf. His daily greeting, whenever I would see him, would usually be something to the effect of, 'So, what have you done today to become a better golfer?'

I used to look at him and roll my eyes because, well, I was working and didn't do anything related to golf. But as I grow older, the idea of working at something to become better is not just a pastime; it's not just something you do in your free time. It's something that you have to schedule, something you have to work at daily.

Whether it be 10-15 minutes, 30 minutes, 4 hours, or whatever the case may be, setting time aside to work on that one thing you want to get better at literally requires a daily commitment. If you want to become a better artist, a better draftsman, then put a pencil in your hand and start drawing every day. I don't care what it is; do something. If you want to become a better designer, don't just look at the design work. Design and create something. It doesn't matter if you have an assignment or a paying gig; just do it. Create something from your head over and over again, and eventually, you'll start to get better.

So, I ask you, what is it you've done today to become a better [blank]?
